October 1 – Part 2 – Day 3
NRG Arena, Houston, TX
Pets at the NRG Arena are now available for foster homes. Lots and lots of sweet dogs who are just waiting for someone to love!
Change in plans – I worked the Library today. This little one is also a Library residents, but right now in quarantine in the very far corner of the room. He is fighting some kind of eye infection, but I’m sure he will bounce back before long. Still has lots of energy to play between belly rubs and cuddles.
This guy is just as sweet as they come. He needs a lot of time and gentle talk. Not sure you can see it but he is actually hugging my arm as hard as he can with his little paws, the whole way out to the walking area. Thrilled that I got to spend quite some time with him, cuddling outside as the sun was setting. Oh, yeah, of course, he stole my heart too!!
Today was an interesting day at the NRG Arena. Big football game – Houston Texans vs. Titans and talk about Tailgate Parties! So, we had to take a shuttle in here to the Arena in the early am to beat the rush.
We walked the dogs outside until around 10am at which point we had a lockdown. Amazing Grace was one of the last ones to make it out there before the lockdown and I am just stunned by the transformation in her. When I left here two weeks ago she was still very scared and we had to go very very slow about getting her out of her pen and outside every time. Well, today she got to watch horses, which was almost as amusing to her as the tailgaters grilling steaks and hotdogs within sniffing distance. Matter of fact, she enjoyed it so much she decided to just stretch out on the grass and soak in the entertainment. And, at some point, she made a jump and a twist in mid-air for no particular reason. She is just becoming a very different, and happy dog.
It warms my heart to watch! Not just her, but also many other dogs that came in with broken spirits and are now learning that there is a different kind of life within reach for them.
I also had the opportunity to spend some quality time with the guys in The Library that I didn’t have much history with until today. And of course, I fell in love with every single one. It’s not hard to do…just look at the images from today and you will understand why.
Stretching in the sun, enjoying the tailgate parties in the parking lot.
I’m thrilled to see how some of them are coming out of their shells and I just love getting to know their little personalities. However, some are still very shy and holding back, like the little tiger-colored beauty. She is very scared, we have to carry her outside. She is about 35-40 pounds but becomes a bag of potatoes and feels like 60! But it’s ok, everyone here loves her to pieces.
The sad note today was that Jess, our super-duper, awesome, incredible volunteer coordinator worked her last day and is heading back to Kanab, Utah. Jess, we will miss you like crazy!!!
The happy note is that some of the pets have left for their new foster homes, which hopefully will end up being the last Forever home they ever will go home to.
I’m posting some of the sweet faces that greet me in the mornings. I know you’ll love them as much as I do 🙂
Also posting a few pics from the NRG Park. I actually walked around the whole park today during “quiet time” and took some pics of the buildings. This place is huge!
And I had a chance to walk through the green and yellow after my shifts, tonight. Still have not find my little guy and my heart is sinking…
More tomorrow, hopefully, and as always, thank you all for your support and sweet words.
