Infographics OR DATA VIZ are visual representations of information. Think SHOW, not TELL. A good infographic design should communicate a message in an interesting way, showing enough information without being overwhelming.
When designed well, infographics can communicate information in a cohesive and highly visual way. Infographics are becoming a powerful tool to simplify huge amounts of information. Infographic design is widely used by companies to build their brands and educate their audience. However, there are many pitfalls to be aware of. We will touch on a few of them here without going into details.
PLAN YOUR DESIGN – find the story in the data. Wireframe and plan the hooks
CREATE WITH COLORS – be consistent and stick to 3 colors if possible
COPYWRITING – use great titles for your infographic design
PLAN THE LAYOUT – determine the best chart types for your data
INCORPORATE DESIGN ELEMENTS – have fun with typography and photos
PAY ATTENTION TO BALANCE – and leave plenty of negative space
